Palabora Copper (Pty) Limited, a subsidiary of Palabora Mining Company Ltd,is a copper mine that also operates a smelter and refinery complex based in the town of Phalaborwa, in South Africa's Limpopo Province. The mine owes its origins to a unique rock formation in the region known as the Palabora Igneous Complex.
Palabora has been operational since its incorporation in 1956 and is the country's major producer of refined copper, producing approximately 45 000 tonnages of copper per annum. Palabora Copper is South Africa's sole producer of refined copper, which it supplies mainly to the local market and export the balance. Whilst copper forms the base-load of its business, Palabora also mines and exports other by-products such as Magnetite, Vermiculite Sulphuric acid, anode slimes and nickel sulphate.
Palabora Copper (Pty) Ltd hereby invites Ba-Phalaborwa Communities who wish to further their studies at TVET Colleges
to apply for a bursary. These bursaries are awarded on academic merit only Preference will be given to candidates from Ba-Phalaborwa Community.
• The bursary is renewable annually, depending on academic performance.
• There is no obligation from PMC to offer vacation work and Internship Program
Bursaries opportunities are available for the following disciplines for 2022 academic year:
• Nated Studies (Electrical Engineering Heavy Current, Mechanical Engineering Diesel, Mechanical Engineering Fitting
& Turning and Mechanical Engineering Boilermaking)
• National Certificate Vocational (Office Administration, Hospitality and Tourism)
• Nated Studies (Business Management)
The bursary covers the following:
• Full tuition.
• Accommodation.
• Meals and
• Books allowance
Must be a South African Citizen.
• Currently enrolled at a South African institution of higher learning registered with DHET.
• Must be between 16 - 35 years old with no criminal record.
• Ability to demonstrate potential academic success.
