In 2014, the Globeleq Scholarship Fund (GSF) was established and is currently managed by Globeleq South Africa Management Services (GSAMS). The fund is financed by independent power producers (IPPs) of GSAMS and the Globeleq Educational Trust (GET). Since its inception, the GSF has awarded approximately R10.3 million in bursaries.
The primary objectives of the GSF are to address the shortage of technical skills in the renewable energy (RE) sector, create a skills pipeline for the industry and the company, and support the long-term sustainability of the communities in which it operates. The fund is focused on providing support for mechatronic and electrical engineering degrees/diplomas nationally, education, agriculture, and nursing degrees/certificates for students in the Eastern and Northern Cape, and various degrees/certificates for students within a 50km radius of GSAMS operations.
Each year, the GSF awards scholarships to approximately 36 beneficiaries.
