    Bursary description

    The Tiso Foundation extends a tertiary bursary programme to provide financial assistance to academically gifted students from underprivileged backgrounds in South Africa. This programme seeks to overcome the financial hurdles that hinder students' access to higher education while promoting excellence and leadership across diverse fields.

    The bursary encompasses the coverage of tuition fees, accommodation, books, and a monthly stipend. Furthermore, the programme offers academic support, mentorship, and opportunities for leadership development, ensuring comprehensive development and success for the bursary recipients. The Tiso Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering South Africa's youth and contributing to the creation of a more equitable and prosperous future for all.

    The bursary is open to all fields of studies offered at a registered University or University of Technology in South Africa.

    Requirements and eligibility

    Candidates must meet these selection criteria:

      • Between the ages of 18 and 34
      • Come from a previously disadvantaged background
      • Be in possession of good to excellent matric results
      • Produce excellent results if already registered as a full-time student
      • Be financially needy
      • Portray an excellent positive attitude
      • Be dedicated to their studies
      • Provide references
      • Be willing to give back to the community
      • Be black, Indian or coloured
