The University of Johannesburg (UJ) is a vibrant and diverse institution located in Johannesburg, South Africa. It reflects the energy and multiculturalism of the city it calls home. With a strong African identity, UJ is committed to harnessing the power of higher education for the development of the continent. The university boasts a large and inclusive community, with over 50,000 students, including more than 3,000 international students from 80 different countries. This makes UJ one of South Africa's largest contact universities among the 26 public institutions in the country's higher education system.
UJ's vision is to become an internationally recognised university rooted in Africa while actively shaping the future. Its mission is to inspire its community to drive transformation and serve humanity through innovation and collaborative knowledge pursuit. These principles are guided by four core values: imagination, conversation, regeneration, and ethical foundation. The university's six strategic objectives provide a clear roadmap for achieving its vision, mission, and values. They represent a refinement of the original UJ Strategic Thrusts 2020 and position the university as "The Pan-African" Center for Critical Intellectual Inquiry, with a primary goal of attaining global excellence and recognition.
