Astron Energy, a major Southern African petroleum supplier within the Glencore group, operates the region's second-largest petroleum network with numerous service stations. The company is dedicated to corporate responsibility, supporting education, health, and economic development. It also owns Cape Town's third-largest crude oil refinery with a daily processing capacity of 100,000 barrels and a Durban lubricant plant.
Although Astron Energy entered South Africa in 2018, its legacy dates back over a century, playing a pivotal role in the nation's history since 1911. The Caltex brand and star logo became synonymous with the company in 1936, while key investments, such as the Durban lubricant plant in 1955 and the Cape Town refinery in 1966, further strengthened its position.
Since 2018, Astron Energy has operated under the Caltex brand via a Chevron license. In the near future, all Caltex service stations in South Africa and Botswana will transition to the Astron Energy brand across corporate, commercial, and retail channels.
