The HORTGRO Bursary Scheme, which supports undergraduate students pursuing degrees in Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, and Business Management, is made possible through funding from HORTGRO, AgriSETA, and the Deciduous Fruit Industry Development Trust.
Currently, there are 27 students benefitting from this scheme. HORTGRO is dedicated to advancing the deciduous fruit industry through research, technology, production, transformation, markets, and communication. Their ultimate aim is to ensure that South African fruit is of the highest quality and produced in a sustainable manner while empowering growers and transforming the industry.
Bursary description
Bursary applications for 2024 funding are open from 15 May 2023 and close on 15 August 2023.
The Hortgro Bursary Program provides financial support to undergraduate and postgraduate students who are interested in pursuing studies in horticulture, viticulture, and related agricultural fields. The program covers tuition fees, accommodation, and a stipend for books and living expenses, and offers opportunities for practical experience through internships and mentorship programs.

Requirements and eligibility
To be considered for the HORTGRO Bursary, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
Be a South African citizen
Have completed or currently completing Matric
Be enrolled or intending to enrol in a degree program in one of the specified fields
Be registered or intending to register at a recognized South African tertiary institution
Meet the admission criteria for their chosen course of study.
These eligibility criteria ensure that only deserving candidates who demonstrate a genuine interest and potential in the agricultural industry are considered for the bursary.
