About NMISA

The N ational Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA) is a state-owned entity and the custodian of the South African National Measurement Standards. The institute is responsible for providing an accurate, reliable, and traceable measurement system for South Africa. NMISA offers services to a diverse range of industries, including the medical, energy, automotive, and telecommunications sectors, among others. The institute also provides calibration services, laboratory services, and training programs to ensure that all measurements taken in South Africa are accurate and traceable to international standards. NMISA also offers undergraduate and postgraduate bursaries at recognized South African universities. Upon completion of their studies, bursars are required to work for one year for every year sponsored at NMISA. This provides a unique opportunity for successful graduates to pursue an exciting career in the science of accurate measurement (metrology).

About this Bursary

Undergraduate and post-graduate bursaries are available from the National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA) at recognised universities in South Africa . Upon graduation, recipients will need to work for NMISA for a period of one year for each year of the bursary. The successful graduates will have the opportunity to pursue a fulfilling career in the field of accurate measurement, or metrology. Bursaries are available for study in the following fields: engineering (electrical/electronic, mechanical) materials science physics chemistry

Eligibility Requirements

Bursaries are offered on academic merit and financial need. Undergraduate students who are registered fulltime at a recognised South African university in any of the fields listed above. Candidates who are able to provide grade 11 results and progress report for grade 12 or are in possession of grade 12 exemption certificate with acceptable symbols. Applicants must be South African Citizens.
