The National Metrology Institute of South Africa (NMISA) is a world-class institution that is responsible for establishing, maintaining and improving the South African National Measurement System. With over 80 years of experience, NMISA has a rich history in the field of metrology, which is the science of measurement. NMISA plays a crucial role in ensuring that measurements made in South Africa are accurate, reliable and internationally recognized. This is achieved through a range of activities, including research and development, calibration and testing, training and education, and the dissemination of measurement standards. NMISA's work contributes to a range of industries, including manufacturing, health, and energy, and is essential for ensuring the safety and well-being of South Africans.
NMISA awards these bursaries to students with outstanding academic records who exhibit the potential for a successful career in metrology. Applicants must be South African citizens or permanent residents and must be enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate program at a recognized South African institution.
The bursary encompasses the coverage of tuition fees, accommodation, and a living allowance. Additionally, bursary recipients have the valuable opportunity to acquire practical experience through an internship at NMISA. This hands-on experience in metrology enhances the students' academic studies.
Upon graduation, bursary recipients are obliged to work at NMISA for a duration equivalent to the length of their bursary. This ensures that the investment in their education benefits both NMISA and the field of metrology in South Africa.
