The South African Actuaries Development Progamme (SAADP) is a non-profit organisation established to actively and urgently address the problem of the acute shortage of black actuarial professionals in South Africa. The SAADP does this by unearthing and harnessing mathematical and analytical skills amongst black students to expose and help them capitalise on career opportunities in the field of Actuarial Science.
With established infrastructure at the University of the Witwatersrand, the University of Pretoria and the University of Cape Town, The SAADP prides itself on transforming the lives of many black students from various economic backgrounds. The establishment of SAADP was driven by the fact that South Africa had around 450 qualified actuaries in 2003. Out of the estimated 450 actuaries, 14 were Indians, 03 were Coloureds, and only 1 was a black African.
It was for this reason that Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa saw a need to convince the Board of Sasria SOC Ltd to establish SAADP. Sasria became the founding sponsor of SAADP and continued to sponsor SAADP’s business activities since 2003 until now. Additional sponsorships were received from other generous sponsors. All our donor partners are provided with Section 18A certificates for tax submissions to SARS and rebates.
The South African Actuaries Development Programme (SAADP) Bursary is awarded to students who would like to study towards an Actuarial Science qualification at one of the SAADP partner universities: University of Cape Town, University of Pretoria or the University of the Witwatersrand.
