    The Food and Beverage Manufacturing Sector Education and Training Authority, known as FoodBev SETA, plays a crucial role in advancing skills development within the Food and Beverage Manufacturing sector. This organisation is dedicated to ensuring the sector maintains high-quality educational offerings, enhances access to knowledge and skills for everyone involved, and provides relevant and top-notch learning standards and qualifications.

    FoodBev SETA is one of the 21 Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) in South Africa. These SETAs are vocational skills training institutions that focus on providing skill development and training to both employed and unemployed individuals within their respective sectors.

    Bursary description

    The Food and Beverage Manufacturing industry is the focus of FoodBev SETA's efforts to promote and support skills development through various bursary programmes, namely, the FoodBev SETA Bursary.

    For UNDERGRADUATE studies, the available fields of study include:

    • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Electronics Engineering.
    • Bachelor of Science in Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or Microbiology.
    • Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) or Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting (BCompt) with a specialization in Accounting or Finance.
    • Bachelor of Business Science in Marketing.
    • Bachelor of Science in Oenology.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Consumer Science or Environmental Health Science.
    • Diploma programs in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Food Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Operation Management, Packaging Management, or Production Management.

    For POSTGRADUATE studies, the available options include:

    • Advanced Diploma in Labour Relations.
    • Postgraduate degrees like a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) or Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting (BCompt) Honors with a focus on Accounting or Finance (CTA).
    • Bachelor of Science Honors in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
    • Bachelor of Science Honors in Food Science and Technology, Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or Microbiology.
    • Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Food Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Operation Management, Packaging Management, or Production Management.
    • Bachelor of Business Science Honors in Marketing.
    • Bachelor of Science Honors in Oenology.
    • Honors Degree in Environmental Health Science, Consumer Science, or Industrial Psychology.
    Requirements and eligibility

    Before applying for the FoodBev SETA Bursary, you must meet the following minimum entry requirements. It's important to note that failing to meet any of these criteria will result in your application not being considered:

    • Proof of Income: Applicants must provide evidence that their parents' or guardian's combined annual
      income is less than R650,000.
    • Application Submission: The institution's bursary office must submit vetted applications from eligible
      students seeking financial assistance for their studies.
    • Eligibility: Students must be accepted or registered at a university or TVET College for the 2024 or
      2025 academic year.
    • Bursary Coverage: The bursary will cover tuition fees, books, accommodation, and meals, where
      applicable, based on valid proof and accredited accommodation.
    • Study Requirements: The funding is available for full-time studies at a recognized and accredited
      South African public University or TVET College.
    • Eligibility for Funding: The bursary is open to South African citizens or permanent residents only.
    • Exclusions: Students who have other sources of funding are not eligible, and applicants must declare
      any previous funding received.
    • Preference: The SETA reserves the right to prioritize certain designated groups.
    • Obligations: The bursary office is required to submit the funded students' results to the SETA after each
      level is completed.

    NB. Please note that the completed form must be accompanied by the following student/learner
    information:

    ▪ Certified copy of highest qualification
    ▪ Certified ID Copy
    ▪ Proof of admission/registration
    ▪ Proof of income: Proof that the joint income threshold (bracket) of the student’s parents or guardian
    is less than R650 000 per annum.

    How to apply

    To request application forms for the FoodBev SETA Bursary, please send an email to ResearchBursaries@FoodBev.co.za with the subject line stating: "Request for FoodBev SETA Bursary Application Form."

    Once you've obtained the application form, you must complete it and submit it, along with the required supporting documents, to your University Bursary Office. It's important to note that students should not directly apply to FoodBev SETA; instead, universities will handle the application process on behalf of the students.

    Ensure that you include clear copies of the following supporting documents when submitting your application form. Failure to provide any of these documents may result in disqualification of your application:

    • A certified copy of your ID document (not older than 3 months).
    • Proof of registration for the academic year 2023.
    • For PhD students, include an approved research proposal (including research costs) with confirmation from your recognized tertiary institution.
    • For Master's students, provide an approved research proposal (including research costs) with confirmation from your recognised tertiary institution, along with a research topic endorsed by your supervisor.
    • University's Tax Clearance Certificate.
    • A signed declaration of intent, progress reports, and results, which should be submitted to FoodBev SETA officials. These documents should be signed by both the applicant and the supervisor.
