    Starke Ayres (owner of the Starke Ayres bursary) is a specialist in the vegetable, flower and lawn seeds industry, with over 130 years of experience. Today the company is the largest independent vegetable seed company in South Africa, supplying both the commercial and consumer markets. It employs over 250 staff and is committed to growth, innovation and superior customer service.

    Bursary description

    The Starke Ayres bursary aims to help SECOND YEAR students, with strong academic records, excel (bursary applies to second year students and upwards).

    Bursary opportunities exist for students with interests in/ qualifying in:

      • Genetics
      • Plant breeding
      • Plant production
      • Soil science
      • Plant science

    The company focuses on broadening its genetic base and product range to provide the new genetics that the market requires.

    Requirements and eligibility

    Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying:

      • South African citizen
      • Completed Matric/ Grade 12 year
      • Studying full-time towards a qualification in one of the aforementioned fields of study (see ‘about’)
      • Completed the 1st year of study (must be applying for funding from second year onwards)
      • Studying at a recognised South African University
